Vocalist Tracy Wiens will be performing arias by Respighi, Mozart, Puccini, Gounod, as well as some musical theatre throughout the evening between the other performers’ sets. Cole Tinney will be accompanying her on piano.
For the past 14 years, Tracy has performed extensively in the Lower Mainland, Kootenays, and Okanagan in the genres of musical theater, opera, operetta, and oratorio. She has also been a featured soloist with the West Coast Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Orchestra, and Willan Choir. Ms. Wiens was also a featured semi-finalist in Bravo Channel’s “Bathroom Divas”, and was a member of Vancouver Bach Choir for four seasons. This year Tracy will be completing her Bachelor of Music degree, majoring in Classical Vocal Performance..
Cellist Rebecca Wenham’s interest in diverse cultures has led to performances of classical, jazz and Persian music. As a member of the acclaimed Cecilia String Quartet from 2004 to 2010, she won prizes in the Rutenberg, Osaka, Bordeaux and Banff International String Quartet Competitions and performed in Europe, Asia, Australia, Mexico, and the US and Canada. Rebecca holds degrees from the HARID Conservatory and Rice University. She returns to Vancouver after 15 years.
Rebecca will be performing Gaspar Cassadó’s Suite for solo cello in 3 movements. Because Cassado (a student of Casals) was an accomplished cellist , the Suite is extremely idiomatic for the instrument while displaying its virtuosic potential and contains obvious influences of his mentors Maurice Ravel and Manuel de Falla, as well rhythmic influences from the Catalan region.
Bassist Tommy Babin will be performing original pieces for solo bass.
As a bassist Tommy can be heard on scores of albums and has performed worldwide with a wide array of artists such as Gordon Grdina, Ramachandra Borcar, Jorane, Paul Plimley, Les Projectionnistes, Hamid Drake, Mats Gustaffson, The NOW Orchestra, Kudsi Egerner, Thomas Hellman and Joel Miller. He also leads the group Benzene, whose DripAudio release was widely acclaimed.
